Frequently asked questions
No! Anyone and everyone is welcome to register for the Hays Fit Games
We anticipate an athlete will be able to complete the events in less than two hours with proper rest breaks.
No way! These games are geared towards individuals of ANY fitness level. It's a wonderful time for anyone to come and discover what's strong with you!
Additionally, many of the events will remain the same year over year, so they can be used as benchmark fitness tests regardless of skill or activity level.
Yes! We will give awards to the top three athletes overall as well as the winners of each age group for each gender.
Awards will consist of a trophy and some monetary prize (to be determined)
We will also give an award to the fittest gym. This will be determined by averaging the scores of all the participants from each gym. The fittest gym will be able to display the award for Hays County Fittest Gym until they must defend their title next year.
As a matter of fact, YES!
We have a Gym Partner program where gyms with five (5) or more participants will receive 20% of all registration costs back in credit to the unbranded fitness.
Also, please contact adam@outsidersanonymous.org with additional ways your gym can get involved!
We will utilize a performance based scoring system rather than a ranking based scoring. We do this to encourage individuals to compete against themselves and a set (albeit arbitrary) scoring system, rather than the other individuals that happen to show up and participate.
That means that each event will have pre-set scoring based on performance (weight, time, reps, etc), age, and gender. For example, if a 23 year old male were to run a 5:00 mile, he would receive 100 points (the maximum for any event), and if this same athlete were to run a 9:30 mile, he would receive 50 points. An individual's points will accumulate over the 10 events, giving them a final score out of 1000 points.
Check out the APFT scoring standards for additional examples.
We are a 501c3 nonprofit orginization that exists exists to provide free fitness training and an awesome sober community to help individuals run from relapse and lift themselves into a life worth living. We operate the only 100% free gym in the state of texas, serving individuals in recovery, veterans with PTSD, and the community that supports them.
We are based on years of research demonstrating the efficacy of physical activity on the brain of individuals struggling with substance use disorder in order to reduce relapse rates. We are not only focused on providing services to individuals, but also to further our understanding on how physical activity can truly give people in recovery a fighting chance at staying sober.
