Honestly... there is no catch. We're not donation based. There's no hidden fees. No financial commitment needed. Getting sober, learning how to live a different life or even just finding somewhere to fit in and change your life is hard enough. We will never expect anything more from you than a willingness to do hard things.
A lot of different ways, actually! We have a relationship with theunbranded fitness that provides and keeps the rent paid and the lights on. We also hold events anyone is welcome to attend (races, OCRs, DEKA) that bring in revenue. We're fairly diligent in applying for grants, and truly cannot forget our AMAZING individual donors who believe in us... and believe in what YOU'RE doing too.
When do we ever?!? But seriously, no, you don't... we will teach you everything you need to know. We're not going to be concerned with getting a barbell at the exact angle or making sure your arms are perfectly where they need to be... this isn't that kind of gym. We are going to do hard things and come out on the other side. The nuances and perfection that most places focus on don't matter here, so don't worry about knowing anything at all!
Something to hold water would make it easier... we should have everything you need from towels to equipment and everything in between.
Heavens no! We may be addicts, but we're not monsters! Charmin + flushable wipes... you're welcome!
Yes! You will be asked to fill out a few forms during your first visit (liability and all), or you can even sign up online and get it knocked out. Just show up, even if it's just to hang out. We have coffee, TV, MarioKart and plenty of time to share.
NO!
So much of early recovery is in a bubble... all recovery, all the time. That kind of sucks and it isn't an easy way to learn how to live in this world. It's important to us to have a thriving community of "normal" people that can bring love and support to the gym. And let's be honest... even if you don't have an issue with substance use, life can still be hard and lonely. We're a place for all Outsiders. We're a place for you.
Heck yes we do! Remember how much it sucked to do pushups, carry logs, and ruck? Yeah... that's what we do here. After our grand opening we will have veteran specific workouts that grind through the physical AND mental aspects of being a warrior. Eventually we will have veteran specific events, but until then you're welcome to join us... we know the struggles that come from the invisible wounds and the inability to receive help. Our founder is a veteran who struggles with PTSD, so you're not alone. We do some pretty crazy things, let's do crazy things together.
Look... running sucks, we all know it. But we do hard things because life is hard. We won't run much, we won't run fast... but you will be asked to do somethings that make you uncomfortable. Think like running around the parking lot in between exercises. We do have groups that incorporate a little more running, and we even have Spartan Race training groups... so don't shy away from being a little uncomfortable.
But we truly don't run that much (and walking is allowed)
Intimidating right? It doesn't need to be... Ice baths, or deliberate cold therapy, can have a very real (and very awesome) effect on your life. Study after study has shown the unbelievable benefits, both physiological and psychological, associated with deliberate cold therapy. It can help rewire your brain chemistry, reduce the trauma response associated with PTSD, it has even been shown to reduce relapse rates, increase cognitive ability and make you happier!
We have the world's premier ice bath, donated by Morozoko Forge, right in our facility. You're welcome to use it whenever you'd like, or as a group if you need a little motivation. Check out some YouTube videos (I love the entertainment value of YesTheory's Wim Hof episode), and commit to doing it a few times a week, just to see what it could do for you.
It totally sucks less than coming down from days of using or that deep, dark lonely place that we all know so well....
